Strategic Data is seeking a CSS / HTML developer to work with its current team of Perl programmers and graphic designer. This role would ideally be part time at 3-4 days per week and initially for a 6-month contract period - but we're open to negotiation.

We develop a range of on-line database systems for external clients and as part of our own WebSurvey business. While our programmers and graphic designer have a reasonable understanding of current HTML and CSS development techniques we are seeking a dedicated expert in this area.

You will be interested in working in an open-plan, friendly, team-focused work environment and have the following skills or capabilities:

• A demonstrated understanding of best practice in HTML and CSS development
• Qualifications in an appropriately related discipline or demonstrable on the job experience
• Experience with at least one HTML templating toolkit
• Excellent oral and written communications skills

In addition some of the following would win you bonus points

• A knowledge of, and commitment to open source philosophy
• Some level of JavaScript programming experience
• Exposure to JavaScript libraries such as JQuery
• Exposure to AJAX techniques
• An understanding of user interface design and usability issues
• Experience presenting data in charts and diagrams online

You will be involved in the design and re-design phase of a number of projects to provide leadership in the area of HTML and CSS development to ensure that our team produce products that work across platforms and browsers while being easily styled.

You will be working closely with our graphic designer and/or programming team to ensure designs are integrated appropriately using modern HTML and CSS techniques. Where JavaScript (including AJAX) elements are employed you will ensure that these degrade gracefully when it is disabled.
